Local roundup

It’s almost time for me to head out to this evening’s meet up.  6:30pm at Gene’s Haufbrau.  I look forward to seeing those of you who you can make it.

The new black is really black.

Mike brags on his daughter-in-law:

On Monday the Genome Sequencing Center at Washington University in St. Louis announced the completion of a working draft of the corn genome sequence.  This is big news for geneticists, plant breeders, and those doing basic research in plant biology.

Laura was in charge of the finishing effort for the project.

Good news for JanetLee; maybe we’ll see her out tonight.

Mustang Rolling meets a new hybrid.

The problem:

So the office where I live as a student is a walled, cubed area (pictured below). There are no windows. The classrooms where I have classes have no windows. It is often the case that we students decide to go outside to eat lunch in the sun only to find out that it’s 30 degrees and raining.

See the solution.
