I (and I’m sure all the other LCB readers as well) have enjoyed reading and appreciate your efforts on LCB.

Is it too soon to wonder if someone is going to replace you doing the roundups? Will round-upping go back to being the volunteer thing it started off as or does this mean LCB will evolve into something else?

  2. James Williams June 24, 2008 @ 5:48 pm

I’ve enjoyed the roundups, but I’ve always wondered how you found the time to do it! :)

So, thanks for the fun! And good luck with everything to come.

  3. imabug June 24, 2008 @ 6:12 pm

oh, and you *are* still going to come to the meetups, right?

  4. Pam June 24, 2008 @ 6:21 pm

Best wishes…for slightly less hectic days! I hope all goes well for you.

  5. jaz June 24, 2008 @ 7:31 pm

    Oh no!

I really enjoyed your voice in the round-ups.

  6. Uncle Z June 25, 2008 @ 1:49 am

Is it me or is the P&C going into some sort of spiral?

Heather you will be so missed. I understand totally with the need to focus on family. As the boisterous ones grow you will need more muscle and mental power to corral that gang of young pups… milk and band aids could drive you into poverty.

Please keep us posted on your chaos.

GMLC: Your loss of space is the P&C’s stab in the back of the late Sir. Ashley Cooper. I would like to hear his daughter’s defense of that - side note - she is a lovely human being with a kind heart and a sh!tty job… unless she’s been let go too.

Fellow bloggers: How do we keep this local by-pass of internet communication?

I may not comment much, or have much to offer in terms of the relevance of my blog, but, my daily stop here has lead me to many wonderful chance encounters of local thoughts and experiences.

  7. Kay Schneider June 25, 2008 @ 5:25 am

I agree with Uncle Z that through your “Round Up” high points of the Blogs in the P&C Lowcountry Blogroll I have been able to have great “chance encounters of local thoughts and experiences” which I otherwise would have missed.

Thanks for the great job you’ve done. You’ll be missed. Just a parting thought from a mom whose son went from a child of 10 to a young adult of 20 in the blink of an eye-I hope you enjoy every moment of your young family’s growing years. They pass way too fast.

    All the best,
    Kay

  8. Dan June 25, 2008 @ 7:55 am

    You did a great job.

  9. Harriet June 25, 2008 @ 9:01 am

Heather, thanks so much for the great job you did. Always lively, always interesting.

  10. Mike Burleson June 25, 2008 @ 10:54 am

Take care and God Bless! Thanks for making what would have likely been some obscure local blogs and informing a broader audience of what average citizens were saying online. A job well done.

  11. Vera June 25, 2008 @ 1:50 pm

Thanks so much for doing the roundups. They have kept me up to date with the Lowcountry Blogisphere, and I’ve really enjoyed them.

  12. JanetLee June 25, 2008 @ 2:36 pm

Thanks Heather for all you did, not only the round-up, but keeping track and making plans for the get togethers.

  13. Joan June 25, 2008 @ 2:39 pm

Wow! Wow :(. That is too bad for us. Bummer. Thanks for all you’ve done as Blog Den Mother. We are going to miss it.

  14. Michael Lively June 25, 2008 @ 2:58 pm

As someone said earlier, I have no idea how you found the time to do this! But I’m glad you did. You’ll be missed!

  15. jj June 25, 2008 @ 6:13 pm

an understandable and laudable decision: family comes first. thanks for all you’ve done while you’ve been doing it, though.

  16. MUSTANG ROLLING June 26, 2008 @ 12:11 am

We just got this news and deeply regret your leaving. Such sentiment is, of course, not unlike regretting that someone who has been chopping wood every morning for you is giving up that honor. You’ve done a very good job with good cheer and fairness to all.

  17. Dave Moulton June 26, 2008 @ 11:37 am

I trust we will see you at the meet-ups. That is if we can find someone as dedicated and efficient as you to organize meet-ups. Very best wishes in all your ventures.

  18. Chad June 26, 2008 @ 12:29 pm

This is sad! I’ll certainly miss you…and so will my Google Analytics reports!

Thanks for the amazing work you did. The good news is that we all know your other online hangouts, so we’ll see you there!

  19. joan June 27, 2008 @ 5:41 am

So does this mean the blog aggregator doesn’t work either?

  20. Syd June 27, 2008 @ 1:52 pm

Heather, I enjoyed your summations that brought me to read many blogs of diverse subjects. Thanks for the great job that you did. I wish you the best as you enjoy more free time.

  21. wiccan June 27, 2008 @ 7:51 pm

We will miss you. It makes me think without your highlighting of my blog from time to time I will get no traffic now!
I understand how hectic your life must be, but you were a sweet person to do this job for so long.
It seems to me everyone is abandoning the LCB.

  22. Nate June 28, 2008 @ 8:57 am

This is sad to read, Heather. You will be missed. I’ve been up to my nose in summer midterms this week and missed the announcement until now. I was about to praise the P&C for live-blogging the Parrish sentencing, too… but the loss of GMLC and Lowcountry Blogs is too much for one week! We understand, though. Good luck with the kiddies,we’ll both miss your roundups over here.

  23. K Schneider June 28, 2008 @ 2:39 pm

It seems the P&C is reflecting the hard times of the economy with fewer staff members, features, and smaller newspaper size. I for one hope it can hang on as both an “in hand” and electronic news source.

  24. KellyLove June 30, 2008 @ 11:19 am

I’ll miss your voice here a lot! And I hope the person they choose to take your place will be able to do it half as well as you did. I too wondered how you found the time to read the 200-plus (300-plus?) blogs that you read every day.

  25. wiccan June 30, 2008 @ 2:31 pm

The P&C has hit real lows lately.
GMLC losing space, the fact the paper should have offered Heather a job long ago for her work here at the Round up and even more pandering to the whole firefighter/lynch Rusty scenario.
There is the one sided view on Ravenel and on and on.
The last straw for me was the GMLC bit, then Heather. How long she was told that her hard work was going to be a real job one day. How long was she supposed to wait and keep being your unpaid slave?
I canceled my subscription the same day and no longer read online the paper either.
I slap Lee’s fingers when he tries to get one when we go out to breakfast. You have no idea how stubborn I can be.
Unless someone comes from the paper and apologizes to ALL of the Lowcountry Bloggers, you have seen the back of me…and trust me, I got a big back!!!

  26. Heather June 30, 2008 @ 2:36 pm

I was paid for performing the round up, but I do appreciate the sentiment.

  27. Heather June 30, 2008 @ 2:38 pm

I want to thank everyone for their kind words and well wishes.

  28. MojoSteve July 1, 2008 @ 5:43 pm

This may be ever-so-off-topic, but in reading the comments I noted that a couple people were concerned about their blog traffic dwindling without Heather’s kind referrals. I myself was always grateful for the nods in my direction that Heather gave my lil’ corner of the universe. I was figuring my traffic would really dwindle, but I’ve recently stumbled on something that gave me some renewed hope. Rather than waste everyone’s time with a lengthy explanation, drop me an email if you’re interested in grasping at a ray of hope…..*grin*

    steve@lightningman.org is the address.

  30. imabug July 9, 2008 @ 8:00 am

    who broke the aggregator?

  31. MojoSteve July 12, 2008 @ 7:54 pm

*sigh* I actually miss the aggregator too. Also, if anyone’s bored senseless, I’ve been a writin’ fool this past week on vacation. For awhile I was lucky to put up one or two a week, and in the past 3 weeks I’ve done 17, with a couple more in the works. If someone would just pay me to sit around & write……LOL

Hope you guys are all doing great!

  32. imabug July 14, 2008 @ 8:30 am

There’s always the aggregator at http://lowcountryblogroll.com/

The blog list there is probably a little bit out of date and doesn’t have all the newer blogs on it though.

  33. ndpthepoetress Jeane Michelle Culp August 11, 2008 @ 5:24 pm

Heather, Hugs from the Universe to you and yours! Thank You for all your hard work and support throughout the years!

  34. Dan August 11, 2008 @ 9:02 pm

In case anyone wanders over here and hasn’t heard, you can now find roundups at http://www.lowcountrybloggers.com

Announcements

I have enjoyed reading and highlighting excerpts from the diverse voices that make up the Lowcountry blogging community.  As of today I will no longer be writing round ups for the Post and Courier.  I have made this decision for personal reasons, namely due to three energetic and boisterous ones.

I want to thank all of you who have helped nurture the Charleston blogosphere.  I will see you on the blogs.

Heather @ June 24, 2008
